We are a family owned and managed business specializing in beads, jewelry, blown glass, locally created art, clothes, incense, gemstones, and an ever changing selection of unique and exciting gift items. We are located in Roanoke Virginia, in the Historic City Market Building at 32 Campbell Avenue. A Brief Herstory of Seeds of Light; My name is Juniper Healy. In the early 1980s I had four young children and lived in the Blue Ridge Mountains of rural Southwest Virginia. As a creative outlet, I began making beaded jewelry when the kids were in bed for the night. Before long, I was setting up at craft fairs and selling jewelry to relatives and friends. At the time, bead suppliers were hard to come by. When I began ordering beads wholesale, friends and fellow artists started asking to buy beads and supplies. For a couple of years, I maintained a small bead shop in my house in addition to selling handcrafted jewelry. The business slowly grew and in September of 1991 the first Seeds of Light opened in downtown Blacksburg, Virginia. This shop focused primarily on beads and jewelry, with a limited supply of other gifts. After several years, we outgrew the space we were in, and moved to College Avenue in Blacksburg. The new shop was a considerable expansion and provided the opportunity to branch out into new lines of exotic gifts, books, tapestries, and clothing. As the Blacksburg store flourished we began looking for opportunities to expand. In 1995 I found the perfect spot for a second location-the historic downtown Roanoke area, on the corner of the City Market Building. The Market is home to Center in the Square, Mill Mountain Theatre, and many unique businesses and restaurants, as well as one of Virginias oldest Farmers Markets. The bead section in this store is smaller than in the original one, but it is still a core focus of Seeds of Light. In 2005, the store in Blacksburg closed its doors, providing me with the opportunity to focus more time and attention on the Roanoke store and on Seeds of Lights online presence. With some of this extra time, I am very excited to be working on a specialty line of Seeds of Light beaded jewelry. Stay tuned! One of the many benefits of a family owned business is the ability to involve your children in your work. As my children have grown they have all been involved in the business in varying capacities. From learning how to run the cash register to creating their own beaded jewelry, Seeds of Light has provided a jumping off point for them to pursue and discover their own creative interests. On display now, in the store and on the web, be sure to check out the beautiful blown glass pendants, beads, and other gifts crafted by my son Caleb. He calls his new line Liquid Fire Glass Art, and continues to work behind the counter in our Roanoke store when hes not in his studio.
