Carolyn Shea (nee Kessaratos) grew up in northern New Jersey and couldnt wait to move across the river to Manhattan (THE CITY!) where she has lived, worked and painted for over 20 years. A graduate of Parsons School of Design, Shea escaped the advertising world to pursue freelance illustration and now exclusively paints to feed her passion for the joy of creation and imagination. Shea’s art, a mix of surrealism, abstract and realism, is interlaced with myth and magic and recognized for its bold patches of color, emphasizing her deep, often mysterious, meandering crevices of shadows and darks. Water and waves are a running theme throughout much of her work, representing the fluidity of emotion. Her broad range of mediums include pastel, acrylics, mixed media collage, graphite and watercolor and experiments in digital imagery. Carolyn Sheas artwork has been showcased in successful solo and group art exhibitions in Manhattan, Brooklyn and beyond, as well as in NYC art galleries and is well represented in both private and corporate art collections, including AT&T. Ms. Shea is a co-founder of the New Century Art Guild of Manhattan, a member of the Made-In-New-York Crafters Group and is looking forward to exploring new beaches and playing the Garden.
