The art of egg decorating is an ancient tradition and universal symbol of life. Artist worldwide have used the egg as canvas for centuries. Most of my eggs are selected on visits to local farms, they include : Quail, hen, goose, emu, rhea and ostrich. They are emptied and sanitized, then thoroughly dried in preparation for painting. I determine the design based upon its size and shape. The task of cutting, assembling and embellishing results in precision-made works of art. After cutting or carving using an air drill, the eggs are painted, I use several coats of acrylic paint then apply layers of lacquer to achieve the enamel-like finish. About 2 h are required for drying before the application of pearls, crystals & ornaments. The jewelery boxes are padded and lined with velvet, the hinge is then glued most of the time from the inside of the egg so it doesnt interfere with the design. The egg is mounted on its stand as the final step. The complete work though fragile, will be a lifetime keepsake. My eggs have won prizes at International shows and US festvals, I have demonstrated egg art on local and cable TV programs and had many articles written on magazines and newspaper.
